MEET SCOTT STEVENSON

Scott is one of the happiest clinically depressed people you are ever likely to meet. Primarily making his living as a mental health speaker and facilitator Scott has lived a varied and often troubled life which left him with a legacy of poor mental health and some very questionable life decisions.

Today Scott uses his lived life experience to battle stigma around mental health and provide others with proof that things can get better no matter how bleak they might seem today.

Full Bio

Scott turns 50 in April 2020 and has led a very varied and interesting life. A military veteran who has served in Iraq, Kosovo, N Ireland and across the world Scott has wrestled with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bulimia for most of his adult life.

As a Police Officer in the Royal Military Police Scott was exposed to the harsh and brutal realities of terrorism at 19 years old when he became involved in a number of IRA attacks against soldiers and civilians across Germany in 1989 and 1990.
Without the life, experience to deal with what he had witnessed Scott Turned to alcohol and food to help him cope and this started an almost 30-year affair with his two weapons of choice.

During his military service Scott was repeatedly exposed to violence and death on a scale experienced by few people outside of full-blown warfare. This understandably took its toll on his physical and mental health.

After his time in the Military Scott worked for 8 years with the NHS in N Ireland and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service before choosing to open his own data protection consultancy before taking the decision in September 2019 to begin to share his story openly and honestly to help combat the stigma that continues to surround mental health in modern society.

Scott is currently engaged to Patricia and is father to 2 children from his first marriage. He is additionally undergoing assessment for an adult autism diagnosis as a result of the diagnoses of both his children as being neurodiverse.

Scott is able to speak about living with PTSD, bulimia, undiagnosed autism, suicide and suicidal ideation all from extensive personal experience and has a particular affinity for dealing with members of the emergency services and the wider NHS.
